TRIPLEX DELIVERY TO EROS AS & KINGS BAY AS
Triplex AS can announce to have signed a contract with Larsnes Mek.
Verksted AS for the delivery of a newly developed Triplex Net Handling System for built-in net bin to the new "Eros" and the new "Kings Bay". The delivery also includes a 25 tons net winch and
three deck cranes. Rolls Royce Marine in Aalesund has designed the boats, which will become the most modern pelagic fishing boats when they are finished in 2012.
The boats have a gross tonnage of 2,000 tons and will have a length of 77.5 m and a width of 16.6 m.
The new Net Handling System from Triplex is basically based on the good experience gained with the built-in Net Handling Equipment aboard Libas the last 6 years.
A close cooperation with ship owners and consultants have helped that we have reached an optimal solution in terms of functionality and also gained the ability to reduce the height of “net
house”.
Larger area of the net bin, especially in longitudinal direction (approx. 10 m) resulted in that we have been able to reduce the internal height with about 3.0 m compared with the net house
aboard Libas.
Such the built-in Net Handling System now is arranged, size of boats have less importance. Both the size and weight of equipment is reduced and can be tailored to the individual boat size. The
largest coastal boats being built today will therefore have the possibility to be designed with built net bin.
Simpler and less expensive
foundations and mounting
The biggest change from earlier is that Net Crane being mounted against the port bulkhead (wall), instead of up
under the roof, as was the case on board Libas. One can thus choose a simpler and lighter structural support, and gain better access to the built-in net bin via large hatch in the roof, which
allows for storage of trawl nets and other equipment, as well as good access to service the equipment.
The Net Crane is attached to a vertically mounted trolley that runs the entire length of the net bin. The crane arm connected to the trolley is telescopic and swung in a range of over 100
degrees. The Net Roller swung 180 degrees in the horizon plane.
Besides the actual Net Crane, the system consists of the following components:
- Intermediate Roller Unit with hydraulically operated roller, which allows for continuous adjustment of angle contact and improved friction between the netting and the rubber coated roller. The solution, which Triplex has good experience from, among others Chile, contributes to a significant increase in traction of the seine.
- Cork Line Stacker, separates and laying the cork line at the desired place in the net bin.
The Cork Line Stacker can be mounted on the longitudinal trolley for the net crane and run with the net crane, or separately mounted onto a desired location behind the bin.
- Sink Line Stacker, separates and laying the sink line in front of the net bin. New type of telescopic crane arms simplifies the
operation & coordination.
The Sink Line Stacker and Cork Line Stacker can be supplied with different arm systems and installation possibilities.
All equipment inside the net house are automatically coordinated with the Net Winch. Ie. that the operator of the Net Winch, either from the deck or from the bridge, turn on and coordinate all
equipment from one joystick.
For control of the Net Handling System following can choose from:
a) Manual control of all equipment from 2 or 3 portable radio control
panels
b) Semi-Automatic control with automatic adjustment of the rollers. Ie. that roller in the net crane at any time adjusts automatically to the center of the Intermediate Roller, and Cork Line Stacker and Sink Line Stacker to the roller on
the Net Crane.
c) Fully automatic control, which means that the entire net handling operation run automatically after a pre-programmed pattern.
In addition, it will be possible for emergency control of all equipment from levers mounted on the directional valves.
For Net Crane, Intermediate Roller Unit and Cork Line Roller there is a control position on a platform mounted on the vertically mounted trolley. Sink Line Stacker is emergency controlled by the person who takes care of the purse rings.
A Sea-fastening system will be arranged for locking equipment when not in use.
The new built-in Net Handling System from Triplex was first shown at NorFishing in Trondheim in August this year. Both during the exhibition and time after, it has been shown surprising interest
in the new solution. Ship Designers and owners we have been in contact with like clearly the new solution and highlights the opportunity it provides to reduce the height of the net house.
The benefits of built-in net bin are several;
• Improve the safety of the crew
• Total protected from the weather
• The net handling can always take place under full lighting inside the bin
• Provides opportunities for the vessel to operate securely in worse weather
• Protects the user and equipment
Also, economically the built-in net handling system comes favorable compared to a traditional open system. With the built-in net handling system one will definitely obtain benefits that provide
better operating economics. Over time you will see significant savings in reduced maintenance costs of nets and equipment.
The system is patent protected in Norway under patent No. 320038, and internationally through the PCT No. 04/00348
